Tips on How to Apply Makeup Properly

Tips on How to Apply Makeup Properly

Want to know an important beauty tip? Your procedure on how to put on make-up is equally important to your final makeup itself.
It is then advisable that you put on make-up in the proper sequence for you to achieve the desired effect.
Knowing the proper method on how to apply makeup can be somewhat tricky, but can be enjoy it as well.

How to Put on Makeup

What follows is a step by step procedure for putting on makeup properly.
First of all, you have to begin with a freshly-washed face before putting makeup. Cleanse your face with a good cleanser and put on a good moisturizer and sunscreen afterwards. Then, you may now begin applying a makeup underbase to prime your face for the make-up.
If you have pimples or dark circles to cover up, put on concealer before starting with your foundation. Your concealer should be slightly lighter than your regular skin tone.
The most vital part of a good makeup is putting on the right foundation shade that matches your skin tone.
Simply putting on foundation can immensely beautify your overall appearance. It can even out your skin color and make skin imperfections more subtle. Remember to blend your foundation well at the jaw line to prevent that artificial looking line.
Put on a thin layer of face powder over your foundation to create a clean "set". Your trusty powder will also help you maintain a fresh-looking face even at the end of the day.
After your face, focus on your eyes next. Start by filling in your eyebrows with your eyeliner pencil to create a perfect curve.
Next, put on an eyeshadow which coordinates with your eye color and your skin color and blend properly.
With an eyeliner, line your lower lids very carefully and thinly starting from the outer corner of your eye inwards. Do not forget to curl your eyelashes and put on a great volumizing mascara.
Next put on a natural colored blush onto your cheek apples. You should choose a blush color that closely resembles your how your cheek looks like after a long exercise.
Protect your lips first with your reliable lipbalm. Using a lipliner, line your lips starting from the outer part of the lower lip inwards.
Then, put on a good colored lipstick or lipgloss that coordinates well with your make up. Use a good lip brush or your fingers to blend your lip liner with your lip gloss or lipstick color. Finish with your lips by gently clamping with a tissue.
Finally, under natural light, look at yourself in front of the mirror to see if everything blends well.

How to Apply Makeup

By

Here is my 12-step process explaining in detail how to apply makeup. Keep in mind that less is actually more so go ahead and skip a step or a few. I often leave the house feeling gorgeous in only sunscreen, mascara and lip gloss.
The most important part of your beauty routine is to get your skin in tip-top shape. Once you have a fresh, gorgeous palette to paint on, you only need to highlight your eyes or your lips or perhaps your bronzed skin (hello bronzer!) for the perfect look.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 10 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Start with sunscreen A dewy, fresh complexion is sexy and youthful. Starting with a clean face, apply sunscreen to face and neck (see my list of the Top 10 Sunscreens). Rain or shine, you should get in the habit of applying sunscreen every day. I use a tinted moisturizer with SPF 50 (it's on my list) so I don't have to use foundation. Because I have dry skin, I apply moisturizer BEFORE my sunscreen. If you have oily skin, rinse face with warm water and pat dry before applying sunscreen.
  2. Apply concealer Dot concealer with your ring finger to the spots that need it most (under the eye, along the nose, on the chin). Blend in by patting in, never rubbing, the concealer (see How to Apply Concealer).
  3. Foundation is next Apply a tinted moisturizer or foundation to your face making sure to blend along the jawline so you don't have a tell-tale line. Few people need to apply foundation all over the face (see "How to Avoid Cake Face"). Simply apply where you have uneven skin tone (usually along your nose and on the skin). In wintertime, if your cheeks tend to get ruddy, apply there as well. For more sheer, natural coverage, consider a tinted moisturizer, which goes on much lighter than typical foundations. See my list of the Best Foundation.
  4. Blush, bronzer Apply blush on the apples of your cheeks (see How to Apply Blush). If you want to appear sun-kissed, apply a bronzer as well (see How to Apply Bronzer). At this point, I love to use a highlighter pen to brighten my face (see how in this review of Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat.
  5. Apply eyeliner Now that your face is set, it's time to make up your eyes. Apply eyeliner to lids. There are many different way to apply eyeliner. You can go for the basic eye, a smokey eye, a cat eye and much more. For a basic eye, simply apply liner to the upper lashes and the lower lashes, smudging along the lower so it doesn't look drawn on. For many more tips on eyeliner, see How to Apply Eyeliner.
  6. Apply concealer If you wear eyeshadow, be sure to set the eye first with an eyeshadow primer, otherwise the shadow will melt into your eyelids.
  7. Next is the eyeshadow Just as there are many ways to apply eyeliner, there are many eyeshadow looks you can experiment with. For a basic eye, simply apply a base shade on the lid of the eye. Apply a darker contouring shadow in the crease. Make sure to blend it all in well. For many more tips, see How to Apply Eyeshadow.
  8. Curl those lashes Curl your lashes with an eyelash curler. You can blast your curler for 3 seconds with a hairdryer to make the curl hold better, just be sure to test the metal to ensure it's not too hot first.
  9. Moving on to mascara Apply mascara by wiggling the wand from the roots of your lashes on through to the ends. To perfect your mascara application, check out How to Apply Mascara.
  10. Leave your lips for last Once you have your face made up you can see exactly what type of lip treatment you need. You can either fill in lips with lip liner and apply lip balm or gloss over it, or you can line lips first then apply lipstick. Some women opt for just gloss or balm. For more tips on lips, see How to Apply Lipstick.
  11. Set your makeup Set your face with loose powder or a spritz of Evian spray.

What You Need

  • sunscreen
  • concealer
  • foundation
  • eyeliner
  • eyeshadow primer and eyeshadow
  • bronzer and/or blush (or neither!)
  • mascara and an eyelash curler
  • lipstick, gloss or balm

How Does Aromatherapy Relieve Stress

By B.S. in Community and Human Services

Essential Oils

Essential oils are the key to relaxing aromatherapy, and they are extracted from plant materials by three main methods:

Steam distillation
Cold press
Absolute
Absolute is the method that is used to extract essential oils from flowers, which would not survive the steam distillation or cold press method. The cold press method is used to extract essential oils from citrus fruits and the steam distillation method is used for all other plants and parts of plants such as leaves, stems, and bark.

Holistic Aromatherapy

If you've ever had a massage where the masseuse used essential oils, you've had a holistic aromatherapy treatment. This is one of the more common ways that aromatherapy is used. The combination of the smell of essential oils, the absorption of the oils into the skin, and a tissue massage can help chase away even the most stubborn muscle tension and stress from the body.

In addition to relieving stress, it is believed that aromatherapy can help to boost the body's immunity. Stress can make an individual vulnerable to illness and aromatherapy can help to strengthen the body's immune system by stimulating chemicals in the brain that can help to fight off infection.

Clinical Aromatherapy

Clinical aromatherapy is used in conjunction with traditional medicine. This form of therapy may vary greatly from country to country. One way that it is used in the United States is with dentistry. The scent of lavender used in waiting rooms has been shown to help reduce stress prior to dental treatments. It has also been used to provide quick relief to those who are suffering from major diseases, serious illness, or childbirth by helping to provide a relaxing atmosphere.

Aesthetic Aromatherapy

Aesthetic aromatherapy is the use of essential oils in burners, diffusers, or in the bath. This is another popular method that is used by people of all ages. Many people give bath salts, bath beads, and shower gels to one another for special occasions and the holidays. These gifts are often touted as spa treatments or stress relievers. These products are made using essential oils and they produce the necessary effects for the recipients - soothing, skin pampering, and stress relieving bliss. Scented candles often include essential oils as well, and can be used in conjunction with scented bath products for a luxuriously relaxing experience.

How Does Aromatherapy Relieve Stress?

Aromatherapy used in any of its forms can help to relieve stress. Since aromatherapy employs the use of scent to affect how people feel, it is important to understand how this works on the body.

When we inhale air, particularly air that is infused with essential oils, it goes to the roof of our nose. Olfactory receptors in the nose then transport the information to the limbic system. The limbic system is where our emotions are processed. One reason it is believed that aromatherapy can be helpful, especially when treating stress, is that it stimulates the release of certain chemicals in the brain that can help people relax. This is why aromatherapy can help to relieve stress.

Try Aromatherapy

If you're interested in exploring the use of aromatherapy to relieve stress, you can do this in one of several ways.

Visit a spa and request information on the aromatherapy options that they offer. From simply enjoying a quiet room to massage therapy or even steam aromatherapy, you'll be able to find which option works best for you.
Buy a home aromatherapy kit and try out the various essential oils to see which works best for you. Home aromatherapy kits may include an essential oil diffuser or burner as well as instructions on how to use the essential oils to achieve the desired effect.
Buy a kit that includes an assortment of bath salts to enjoy. Try out a little of each type to see which produces the desired effects without overpowering the senses.
There are a few words of caution for those using essential oils for stress relief. Some essential oils can cause allergic reactions. Test a small amount of the product on the inside of the wrist or elbow before taking a bath with the oils. In addition, using too much of an essential oil or mixing different oils in a diffuser or burner can be overwhelming. Be sure to use the exact amount specified in the instructions so the experience of discovering how does aromatherapy relive stress is a pleasant one.

Coconut Oil for Skin, Hair and Nails

Coconut oil provides moisturizing benefits for the skin, makes for an outstanding hair conditioner and helps strengthen your nails. Coconut oil has become a key ingredient in skin, hair and nail products. Please remember to always use organic, RAW, extra virgin coconut oil as this will make a huge difference in the effects!
SKIN
Coconut oil contains vitamin E, is rich in antioxidants and its high content of Lauric Acid help revitalize your skin to look softer and younger. It will absorb easily into your skin without feeling greasy. Coconut Oil can be used as face moisturizer, skin lotion, massage oil, after sun cream and protects against against dry and aging skin. Coconut oil helps improve symptoms of skin infections and reduces blemishes and spots. Since coconut oil is suitable for all skin types, it can be safely used on a baby’s skin specifically for diaper rash eliminating the need to worry about chemicals or any harsh ingredients.
My sister, Roxanne DePalma, always says that she does not put anything on her skin that she would not eat. This made perfect sense to me once I started doing yoga and learning that our skin is our largest organ. Why would we put anything on our skin to be absorbed in our body by our largest organ that we would not put in our mouth? When I switched to coconut oil as my daily moisturizer, my skin cleared up feeling softer and smoother. Plus when I run out of coconut oil in my kitchen, I always know I have a back up on my bathroom cabinet!
;)
HAIR
Coconut oil can help encourage hair growth, reduce hair loss and restore protein loss in dry damaged hair. Massage coconut oil into your scalp as a pre-wash, anti-dandruff treatment or leave in overnight. Just remember to wash out the coconut oil in the morning to leave your hair looking shiny and healthy!
NAILS
Coconut oil contains important nutrients to help strengthen your cuticles and nails. Moisturizing your hands and feet with coconut oil will aid in roughness and splitting and also help cure cuticle infections and fungal nails.

Cucumber Beauty Benefits, Applications And Tips:

1. Cucumber beauty benefits for eyes:
• Cucumber for puffy eyes: This is perhaps one of the best known beauty applications of cucumbers. Since cucumbers contain ascorbic acid in huge quantities, it prevents retention of water. Just place slices of cucumbers on your eyes and leave it for about fifteen minutes. The puffiness would be gone.
• Cucumber for tired eyes and dark circles: If you are unhappy with the expensive serums that promise to remove dark circles, try using cucumbers. The silica and anti-oxidants that cucumber has helps in lightening dark circles and rejuvenating dull and tired eyes. You can also use potato juice in equal quantities with cucumber juice to do away with dark circles faster.

2. Cucumber beauty benefits for skin:
• Cucumber for skin problems: The cooling properties of cucumbers help to soothe inflammations and treat rashes. Place thin cucumber slices on affected area to treat irritated skin conditions. In no time, you would feel better.
• Cucumber for treating pimples: Cucumber is known to work wonders on pimples as well as blackheads. Apply cucumber juice on skin and let it dry. Wash off with plain water. The astringent properties would help to reduce pimples and acnes. Your skin would be smooth and soft naturally.
• Cucumber for treating sunburn: Cucumber is a natural coolant, excellent for treating sunburns. It reduces pain and helps to heal the skin thus damaged. Apply cucumber juice directly on skin or place slices on the affected areas to get the best results.
• Cucumber for cleansing: It is a deep pore cleanser which gives you bright skin when used daily. The water content of cucumbers helps to clean the pores gently and offer you healthy skin.
• Cucumber as anti-aging remedy: Cucumber contains 90% water and thus, helps to keep your skin hydrated. Cucumber seeds are rich in vitamin E and potassium. The seeds help in reducing fine lines, spots and other signs of aging.

3. Cucumber to stay in good shape:
• Cucumber for weight loss: The calorie content in cucumbers is low and therefore, it is a great substitute for snacks loaded with calories. Since cucumbers have dietary fibers, it checks your tendency to over-eat. Your stomach feels full and you tend to eat less. Thus, it is a healthy way to spur weight-loss.

Cucumber Face Packs
Cucumbers offer multiple benefits when used in face packs. Grated cucumber or cucumber juice can be used as a key component in facial masks to treat wrinkles, spots, blemishes, pimples and fine lines. Cucumber is also suitable for sensitive skin.
• Cucumber-Egg white pack: Blend a few cucumber pieces in a blender and form a smooth paste. The paste needs to be strained so that the juice is separated from the residue. Now mix the juice with an egg white and a spoon of lemon juice. Leave it on for about twenty minutes and rinse with cold water.
• Cucumber- Oates pack: Make a paste by blending cucumber slices. Add some honey and yogurt. Add half-a-cup of oats. Put it in the refrigerator and apply the pack when it is cold. Wait till it is dry and rinse with clean water. If you have a dry skin, you can use milk instead of yogurt.

• Cucumber-Almond face pack: Mix a spoon of grated cucumber with half-a-spoon of almond powder, a spoon of cold milk and honey. Apply it on your face and keep for twenty minutes. Wash off this nourishing face mask with lukewarm water.
• Cucumber-milk pack: Mix equal quantities of cucumber juice with milk and apply it on your face to tighten the skin pores.
• Cucumber-lemon pack: Mix cucumber juice and lemon juice in equal quantities and apply the concoction on your face. Keep for about fifteen minutes and rinse with water. This pack helps to lighten your complexion.

Beauty Tips for Shiny, Healthy Hair

Dry, dull hair? Discover 8 easy ways to add luster to your locks
Wed, 2011-06-15 | By By Wendy Schmid

1. Eat right. Hair is made of keratin, a form of protein, so don't skimp on protein-packed lean meats, fish, eggs, beans, and low-fat dairy products, says Kingsley. He also recommends getting plenty of healthy omega-3 fats, which are found in salmon, soybeans, flaxseed oil, and walnuts. "Eating these can increase hair's sheen over time," he says. Nutrition interventions take time—expect to show off new shine in about 6 months.
2. Come clean. If you're a styling-product junkie who wants shiny hair, you'll need to banish the buildup, which is a guaranteed shine squelcher. Once a week, use a clarifying shampoo such as Alba Botanica Clarifying Shampoo ($10; albabotanica.com), or try this tip from Hallowell: Once a month, add 1 tablespoon of baking soda to 2 tablespoons of your shampoo. "The sodium bicarbonate will remove any stubborn, sticky residue," he says.

3. Condition hair often. In fact, do it every time you shampoo. Choose nutrient-rich formulas with ingredients such as avocado oil, olive oil, or shea butter, which moisturize and fill in tiny cracks in the hair shaft. One to try: Garnier Fructis Haircare Triple Nutrition Fortifying Cream Conditioner ($4.50; drugstores).

4. Skip the cold-water rinse. There's no need to undergo the big chill. "Cold water may help close your pores, but it doesn't affect the hair cuticle in the same way," says Kingsley.

Tip: Gently squeeze and blot—don't rub—hair when you towel dry. "Wet hair is fragile, and any friction will rough up the cuticle," says Kingsley.

5. Practice damage control. Always use a heat-resistant product on your hair before blow drying. New formulations seal in shine and prevent damage from superhigh temperatures. Try Pantene Heat Protection & Shine Sprays ($6; drugstores). To further protect hair, use a blow dryer with features that match your hair type and style.

Tip: Occasionally use your blow-dryer's cool setting to dry your hair.

6. Get glossy. Make sure that your shine serum is water soluble—look for dimethiconol on the label, not dimethicone. "Dimethicone, the silicone polymer known for creating a glassy effect, doesn't rinse off easily if it's not in a water-soluble form. And if it builds up, it eventually dries out hair," says Kingsley. Try Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Serum ($15; redken.com for salons).

Tip: Sleep on satin pillowcases for equally satiny hair. At night, the average head is 9 pounds of deadweight, and friction from tossing and turning equals fuzz.

7. Brush with the best. Boar-bristle brushes (or boar bristle with nylon) are superior for smoothing hair and distributing natural oils. Plastics don't have as much give and can snag and break hair, so consider pricier options a shiny hair investment. Try Umberto Beverly Hills Boar Bristle Brush ($11; Target).

Tip: Skip those 100 brush strokes before bed. It's a myth that you can condition your hair by repeatedly stroking scalp oils down the shaft. "Your scalp would have to be very oily for this to really work, and all that brushing will tax your hair," says Hallowell.

8. Recipe for shiny hair: Hallowell's Vodka Mask

In a small glass bowl, using a fork, mash half of a peeled and pitted avocado, 2 Tbsp vodka, 2 Tbsp honey, and 1 egg to form a creamy mixture. Apply to freshly shampooed, towel-blotted hair. Leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse well with warm water, then shampoo and style as usual.
