How to Remove Mascara

Although using eye makeup and mascara enhances the eyes, failing to remove them leaves ugly stains that can make you look tired and unhealthy. With a variety of long-wearing mascaras available in the cosmetic industry, the challenge now is how to remove mascara to keep clean and young-looking eyes. Here are a few simple tips on how to remove mascara effectively:
  • Removing mascara tip no.1: Dip a cotton ball into skin oil or baby oil and dab at the remaining gunk all over your eye area.
  • Removing mascara tip no.2: Items that you can easily find in your kitchen, such as olive and canola oil, milk, and yogurt, are also effective in removing eye makeup.
  • Removing mascara tip no.3: Dry the eye area. Using your fingertips, dab petroleum jelly on your eyelids and massage it all over your lids. This is good for loosening up any remaining eye makeup residues.
  • Removing mascara tip no.4: Wipe it off with a clean cloth after a few minutes.
  • Removing mascara tip no.5: Get a good brand of eye makeup remover to combat hard-to-remove mascara. Usually, the brand that sells long-wearing mascara also carries products for removing them.
  • Removing mascara tip no.6: If you have delicate skin, be sure to buy and use only hypoallergenic skincare products and eye makeup removers.
  • Removing mascara tip no.7: Whatever type of eye makeup remover you may choose, make sure to use only cotton balls with them.
  • Removing mascara tip no.8: Remember not to use tissue because this dissolves into strands that can get into your eyes and cause irritation.
  • Removing mascara tip no.9: Finally, wash your face thoroughly using facial foam with a deep-cleansing to remove eye makeup completely.
Several skincare brands sell makeup cleansers and solutions for removing mascara. The key to getting the product most suitable for you is to determine your skin type. This will help you avoid irritations and eye infections, especially when removing mascara. Makeup removers, which include products for removing mascara, may come in cream, liquid, and oil variants.

Get Luscious Lashes: Tips for Applying Mascara

When shopping for mascara, it is important to know what look you’re after. Are your natural lashes curly, but need length? Are they long, but need thickness? Or are they short and straight and you want to curl, thicken and lengthen them? Don’t worry, because there is a formula out there that’s right for you! A key element to mascara is that the different mascara brushes are made to achieve different looks, so buy the right formula to get the look you desire and the brush will do the work.

Check out these expert tips from Christina Kazadzis, makeup artist and owner of Touch of Color Airbrush Makeup Artistry for applying mascara:

1. Do not pump the wand in and out. That only dries out the contents.

2. Regardless of how much you’ve used it, toss your mascara after three months of opening it because bacteria can grow.

3. Only wear waterproof mascara if you need to. Left over mascara particles can last on lashes for days even after you’ve washed it off.

4. When applying mascara, start at the base of your lash line and wiggle the wand as you coat the lashes from root to tip.

5. Reapplying a second coat is best done before the first coat dries to avoid clumps.

6. Want to add just a little more length? Reapply a second coat just on the tips to build out the length.

7. When applying on your bottom lashes, use the tip of the mascara brush, or buy a brand that has a mini brush to do the trick.

8. Using a lash comb is a great way to unclump your lashes.

9. Don’t be afraid of colored mascaras. The colors are meant to make eyes “pop” and are a great way to make a statement.

10. Buy an eyelash curler. Curling lashes before applying mascara opens up your eyes and really does make a difference.

As much as you might be tempted to, don’t scrape the wand against the opening of the tube. This just creates gunk that will clump when applied to your lashes. Use a tissue to wipe excess product off your mascara wand. When you want a more natural look for your lashes, pick formulas with descriptions like “tinted.” You can also use multiple mascara formulas at one time; sometimes it takes several products to get the look you seek. Lastly, try applying a bit of mascara primer to your lashes before adding color. Some have the primer on one end and the color on the other. A primer helps give you thick looking lashes and helps prevent clumping.

Celebrity makeup artist Brett Freedman has worked with the likes of Jenna Fishcer, Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Tilly, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler and is known for his ability to create fabulous eye looks. Here’s his secret to lush lashes: “Use short, brown individual faux eyelashes. The short lashes will fill out your natural lashes and give them a lighter and softer look, instead of long “tarantula eyes.” To apply, start on the outside, keeping the lashes toward the sides. If you go too far into the center the lashes will be too long. Add mascara and curl. Curling your lashes will allow them to blend together and get all in line. Fun and quick!”

Getting luscious lashes doesn’t have to be rocket science. Knowing what you want plays a big part in which formula you choose, and you might want to use more than one to get expert results. Now that you’re armed with these helpful mascara tips, long, luxurious lashes await you!

7 MASCARA TIPS: HOW TO APPLY MASCARA ...

Your mascara can make or break your make up look, and using it wrong can mean you're either using too little and look like you are not wearing any mascara or you are using far too much and risk to resemble a panda.
I remember it wasn't easy to get a hand of applying mascara when I first started to wear it.  So here are my 7 top tips for applying mascara which will help you create the perfect lashes from the start!

1. CHOOSE YOUR MASCARA ...

With so many different types of mascara, it's important to pick the one that suits each occasion best. I'd recommend lengthening mascara for the day time, and curling/thickening mascara for your nights out!  Check 5 Best Mascaras - Expert Reviews… for the best mascaras a gal can get.

2. PICK YOUR COLOUR CAREFULLY ...

If you have red or blonde eyelashes, choose light brown for a casual look, and dark brown for night time. If you have dark eyelashes, use dark brown or black in the day, and black for more the night drama.

3. CURL YOUR EYELASHES ...

Now you've sorted out which mascara to use, apply all of your other eye make up, and then curl your eyelashes slightly. Personally, I find that padded eyelash curlers do this so much better, as metal ones just seem to bend my eyelashes.  The best one I've tried is the Shu Uemura curler - read its review in 13 Beauty Must-Have Products for The Lousy Economy …

4. BE CAREFUL WITH PULLING OUT THE WAND ...

Pull out the wand in one motion, as pumping introduces air to the tube and this can lead to drying out. It can also allow bacteria to enter. Make sure both the wand and the edge of the tube are clean, too, or you won't get a smooth application.

5. APPLY TO UPPER EYELASHES ...

Place the wand on the underside of your upper eyelashes. Slowly move it upwards towards the tip in zigzag motions. Use the wand at an angle to add more curl and definition, and be careful not to blink for a few seconds until it is dry.  Apply a second coat for more drama.

Foundation Tips for Flawless Skin

Foundation is a standard part of most women’s makeup routines, but applying it is not as simple as you may think. Many foundations offer buildable coverage but it’s important to know how to apply it to get the most out of your product.

Standard Foundation Brush

Traditional foundation brushes are great for targeted application. If you only need foundation down the center of your face, or like to build coverage in specific areas, a traditional brush is perfect for you. The only problem is that it is often streaky so try to test the brush before you buy it to ensure a blended finish.

Stippling Brush

Duo-fiber brushes, also known as stippling brushes, are great for precise application. They offer more even, airbrushed coverage than a traditional brush and also allow for you to work the product into the skin. The downside to stippling brushes is that they often take more time to apply the product. If you’re willing to take the time, you can get a very polished finish.

Buffing Brush

Buffing brushes can be kabuki style or just any densely packed fluffy brush. Used dry, they give a full coverage airbrush finish with very quick and easy application. Used damp, they can sheer out full coverage foundation for lighter application in warmer months. Buffing brushes allow for control without the time commitment.

Sponge

Probably the easiest method of application, sponges are a relatively foolproof way to get even coverage. The biggest problem is that they often absorb too much product, but if you dampen the sponge before application you can limit excess absorbtion.

Fingers

If you’re just starting out wearing foundation, your fingers can be a great tool to start with. This technique allows you to see how the product works into your skin but isn’t best for women with very oily skin.

How to Choose the Best Eyeliner – Different Styles of Applying Eyeliners
The first step towards successful use of eyeliner is being able to choose the right eyeliner that will accentuate your facial features. Your choice of eyeliner will be dependent on the facial features you have and looks you want to achieve.
For instance, people with blue eyes might decide to go for dramatic or subtle looks and this will affect the choice of their eyeliner. While choosing the best eyeliner, here are some of the most important considerations:

1. Forms of eyeliners

When choosing the best eyeliner, you need to understand that eyeliners come in various forms. Some of the popular forms that exists include permanent eyeliner, pencil eyeliner, glitter eyeliner, liquid eyeliner, gel eyeliner, waterproof eyeliners, kohl eyeliner pencil among many other eyeliners. We have comprehensive covered on each of the above eyeliners. Visit each type above and to get more insight, including how to apply them and some important tips.

We have also covered on each of this eyeliner colors and given examples of the various brands you can use. See more on 14 common eyeliner colors as well as best brands for each color.

3. Facial Features

The third and very important thing to look at when choosing the best eyeliner is your facial features. This includes thing such as the color of your eyes, hair and skin tone. For people who have blue and brown eyes, we have comprehensively written on eyeliners for brown eyes and eyeliners for blue eyes including how to apply them.
For those who have hazel eye color, green, gray, purple, amber, and violet colors can go with the general rule of choosing complimentary colors of eyeliner. Also, visit each of these eye colors as we have covered something on eye makeup for different eye colors.
Alternatively, you will follow the same rules as the ones for choosing eyeshadow colors. See How to Choose Eyeshadow Colors. This should guide you on how to choose eye makeup colors not for just eyeliners or eyeshadow but also mascara and other face makeup.
To help you choose the best eyeliner, you should know that brown and black are the most common and give natural looks. People with lighter eye colors should go for browns, bronze and plums. Those with darker eye should for gray, black and dark brown or any other dark shades.
Be careful when using monochromatic colors of eyeliner since we do not generally use monochromatic colors. However, they can be used and help accentuate your eyes further, if chosen well.

4. Look You Want to Achieve

Finally, when choosing the best eyeliner, you need to decide on the type of looks you want to achieve. For Instance, pencil eyeliners can help create a softer look compared to using liquid eyeliner. Furthermore, glitter eyeliner is good for night outs and parties while black and brown will be ideal for daytime.
Some of the common looks you might want to achieve include subtle, bold or dramatic looks. Bold looks are achieved using thicker lines and vivid colors while thin lines will give you subtle look unless the eyeliner itself is of a very vivid color.

How to Apply Eyeliner – Wearing Eyeliner

How to Apply Eyeliner – Tips, Secrets and Best Eye Liner Types
Right Posture when Applying Eyeliner
The above knowledge should give you a hint on how you can choose your eyeliner. If you have not gotten any of the best eyeliners, you can quickly see some of the best eyeliners for each type and best eyeliner colors. Let us now turn to how to apply eyeliner. Here is what you will need when applying eyeliner.
  • Eyeliner
  • Makeup remover
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Eyeliner Brushes

When applying eyeliners on the upper lash line, we are going to consider general steps to follow. The exact steps might vary a little depending of the form of eyeliner you are using e.g. liquid,powdered, gel, pencil, kohl pencil, etc.
1. Sit or stand in front of a mirror with your dominant’s hands wrist resting on your face. If you have shaky hands, it is advisable you rest the elbow of your dominant hand on a firm surface. Tilt your head backward slightly to ensure your eye is half-open. This will ensure you get a perfect application angle while seeing what you are doing at the same time.
2. While using either a continuous or a dotted line, apply your eyeliner closest to the upper eyelash line as you can to create the illusion that you have thicker eyelashes. You should begin from the outer eye corner towards the inner eye corner and not the vice versa. Some makeup artists often advice you to begin from inner corner outwards. It still works well.
3. Using a magnifying mirror will ensure better application but this can be time consuming. If you used dotted lines, you should afterwards join the dots to form a continuous line. Using dotted lines is a good way for people who cannot draw continuous lines easily.
4. As you draw, ensure the line is as thin as possible. In case you need a thicker line, you can afterwards build on it.
If you are using liquid eyeliner, you should not blink until the eyeliner completely dries to avoid transferring the eyeliner to the crease of your eye.
5. Avoid extending your upper eyelash line to the teardrops or let it not hug the teardrop since you will look very theatrical. However, if this is your intention, it is OK.
While applying eyeliner on the upper lash line, you can create various effects. Some of the common effects are making the line on the outer corner thicker, especially from the outer a third for some drama or classic looks. Furthermore, turn up your eyeliner slightly if you have the downturned eye corners, smudge it upwards using your finger or cotton swab to soften your looks.
Furthermore you can create cat eye looks or smokey eye looks or begin with a thin line on your inner eye corners and make it thicker as you move to the outer eye corners.
An important tip when for applying eyeliner on the upper lash line is to avoid pulling your eye so much using the index finger of the opposite hand (the hand you are not using to apply eyeliner).
Whereas pulling your eyelid slightly on the outer corner will ensure you apply eyeliner much more easily, you need to be careful since this can cause eye wrinkles. Just look intently into the mirror and apply eyeliner. If you have to lift or pull the outer edge of your eyelid,  this is important for people who have hooded eyes, ensure it is gentle.

Applying Eyeliner on the Lower Lash Line

When it comes to applying eyeliner on your lower or bottom lash line, the procedure is more or less the same as the one for upper lash line. However, here are the a few things that will ensure you look perfect:
  • Your chin should be down and eyes looking upwards, wide open.
  • Beginning from your outer eye corner, draw a line three quarter way while tracing your lower lash line. This is donebelow your lower lash line and not above i.e.on the inner rim of the lower lash line. The line should be light. You can make it bolder if you need to do so. However, if you want it bold, the line should also be bolder towards the outer eye corners and thinner or faded as you come to the inner eye corner. For natural looks, you should follow the natural eye shape while lining your lower lash line.

What if I Mess – How to Remove Eyeliner

In case during the process of applying eyeliner you mess up, you will have to clear the mess using the right makeup remover (see how to remove makeup) depending on the type of eyeliner you are using. Afterwards, you will have to apply all the other eye makeup you had applied before reapplying your eyeliner.

DO YOU APPLY YOUR LIPSTICK CORRECTLY?

When it comes to most important makeup products, lipstick will be definitely mentioned in the list. Lipstick enhances the beauty of your lips and gives your makeup the finishing touch. Lining the lips with a lip linear and applying lipstick gives subtle definition to your lips and beautifully highlights the shape of your lips.
As lips are very sensual in natural, you need to give proper attention while applying lipstick.Applying lipstick looks like a simple task, but often you will notice women with poorly-shaped or smudged lip contour. Half-eaten lipstick and smeared lipstick are also very common problems. Well, once you know the right technique of applying lipstick you don’t have to check on the mirror again and again to make sure the lipstick is still there in a good shape and also you do not have to apply your lipstick over and over again.

HERE ARE SOME SIMPLE APPLICATION TIPS THAT CAN HELP YOUR LIPSTICK LAST FOR HOURS:

  • Before you start applying lipstick on your lips, you need to be sure that your lips are soft and smooth. Lips which are very dry or are cracked are not suitable for applying lipstick. Keep your body well hydrated and while at home keep applying lip balm on your lips. You can also apply olive oil or coconut oil on your lips to make them soft. Before applying lipstick, exfoliate the flaky lips from your lips with a gentle washcloth. This will help in removing the dead skin cells and will make the skin of your lips soft.
  • Add a thin coat of lip primer to give your lips a little moisture before applying lipstick so that your lips does not become dry easily and the color of your lipstick does not fade away soon.  In place of primer you can even use a coat of foundation. This step is applicable to those who need to apply lipstick more than once to keep it in good shape.
  • Now it is time to line your lips with the help of a neutral lip pencil. Try to use a lip pencil in a shade which is close to your natural lip color. It is better not to use lip liners that are too dark. While applying lip liner try to outline your natural lip line only.
  • Next apply your favorite shade of lipstick. For better result apply lipstick with the help of a lip brush. Make sure you have applied lipstick to the corner of your lips as well and your lipstick must remain within the lips’ edges. Blot with the back of your hand or a tissue to remove any excess color and to even out the texture.
  • Finally apply little gloss on top of your lipstick for some extra shine. Put some gloss at the center of your bottom lip and then smack your lips together to spread the gloss across your lips. In case you do not prefer glossy look you can skip this step.
  • Now you need to clean up any mistakes with a tissue paper and re apply the lip liner if needed. Make sure lipstick marks are not there on your teeth as it looks very unprofessional.
For a perfect lips makeup, a key role is applied by the shade of the lipstick color. It is important to consider your skin tone for selecting the right lipstick shade. For instance, those having pale skin must use light shade and glossy lipsticks, while those having dark skin must use lipstick in golden brown, cherry red or nude pink shades.  You can ask a beauty expert to help you find the right lipstick shade.

FINAL WORDS:

Lipstick adds the final touch to any makeup application. So it becomes very important to consider your lipstick color and finish properly and try it apply it like an expert. With the above mentioned tips you can easily master the art of applying lipstick perfectly and you can give the perfect shape to your lips.

LONG-LASTING LIP COLOR & SHINE

You shouldn't have to apply your lipstick over and over again throughout the day. By selecting the right formula and following these simple application tips, you can get beautiful lip color that lasts. Also check out these great lipstick colors that are perfect for fall.

PREPARING YOUR LIPS

The key to great looking lipstick that lasts is preparation. For perfect application, you lips need to be soft and smooth. Drink plenty of water and keep your lips hydrated with lip balm, particularly if you live in a dry or windy climate. Exfoliate flaky lips with a gentle washcloth every day in the shower to remove dead skin cells and help create a silky surface. If your lipstick fades easily, add a thin coat of lip primer to your lips before applying lipstick or gloss.

CHOOSE THE RIGHT FORMULA

Lip color is generally categorized as matte, creme or frost (shimmer). Matte lipstick offers true color but not much shine. It typically contains less moisture than other formulas and can leave your lips dry. If you like the look of matte lipstick, try to find one that is labeled as moisturizing.
Creme formula lipstick features dewy shades that will stay in place better if you apply powder or primer to you lips before adding lipstick. This formula is perfect for the more mature woman, or those who tend to get dry lips. Frost or shimmerscontain flecks of color that reflect light. These lipsticks are great for evening because they add a little glitz. For those with dry lips, be wary of lipsticks that boast "all day" formulas. These tend to become very waxy and drying.

LINE YOUR LIPS

After prepping your lips with powder, primer or even a coat of foundation, line them with a neutral lip pencil in a shade near to your natural lip color. Avoid lip liners that are too dark. Take your time when applying lip liner and stick close to your natural lip line. To help your color last longer, fill in your entire lips with the lip liner to create a strong foundation.

USE A LIP BRUSH

Though it will definitely take longer, it's best to apply lipstick with a lip brush for more precision. Take your time and be sure to take the color all the way to the corner of your lips.

GET GLOSSY

Add a dab of gloss on top of your lipstick for some extra shine. Apply it to just the center of your bottom lip. Smack your lips together to spread the gloss. If you aren't a fan of lipstick, you can forego the lipstick altogether and just use gloss.
Lip gloss comes in many forms, the most popular being wands, tubes and pots. Gloss provides shine along with a bit of color. Many glosses also come flavored. Avoid using too much gloss because it tends to get sticky and messy.

HOT LIP COLORS

When choosing lipstick or gloss this season, shades of berry and plum are top choices. True reds are also very popular. Avoid brick reds and oranges, which tend to make teeth look yellow.

CLINIQUE HIGH IMPACT LIP COLOR SPF 15

One of my favorite new lipsticks, Clinique High Impact Lip Color offers long-wearing, feather resistant shades. It also hydrates your lips and contains SPF 15. You can choose from 20 moisturizing colors. My favorites are the berry beautiful "After Party" and "Very Currant." At $14, you can't beat it.

STILA LIMITED EDITION "ROCK THE VOTE" RED

This fabulous red lipstick is just $17. This limited edition color encourages us all to exercise our right to vote. A percentage of sales of this shade go to the Rock the Vote
program.

CHANEL ROUGE HYDRABASE CREME LIPSTICK

This award-winning Chanel lipstick gets some great new shades for fall. My favorite is "Fantastic Plum." This moisturizing formula contains Vitamin E and chamomile to keep your lips soft and smooth.
